Notifications Aren't Working
If you're missing new-message alerts, the cause is almost always a browser or device permission.
Browser notification permission
- Click the padlock icon in the address bar.
- Find Notifications and set it to Allow for the Chatku site.
- Reload the page.
If you previously clicked "Block", it must be changed here — the app can't re-ask once blocked.
Sound is muted
- Check your device and browser tab aren't muted (right-click the tab → Unmute).
- Some browsers block audio until you've interacted with the page — click anywhere in the dashboard once.
Do Not Disturb / Focus mode
Operating-system Do Not Disturb or Focus modes suppress browser notifications. Turn them off or allow your browser through.
Web push (when the tab is closed)
If desktop alerts work only while the tab is open but not when it's closed, web push may not be granted or configured. Re-accept the push permission prompt; if your plan includes web push and it's still silent, contact your admin.
Still nothing?
- Try a different browser to isolate a profile/extension issue (ad/privacy blockers can suppress notifications).
- Confirm real-time updates work at all — if the conversation list isn't updating live either, see Missing real-time updates.
